Professor James N’Dow, born in The Gambia, gained his medical degree in the University of Aberdeen Scotland, the UK, where he is now Professor Urology Surgery and Director of the Academic Urology Unit.

James was Co-ordinating Editor for the Cochrane Incontinence Review Group from 2008 – 2012. His research interests are in evidence synthesis, multicentre randomised clinical trials, big data and global health

He has returned to Gambia several times a year since 2001 to provide charitable services. He founded Horizons ( to improve outcomes for pregnant mothers in The Gambia.

James is Co-Founder and Managing Director of the Urological CANcer Scottish Charity (UCAN; UCAN has funded the opening of the first Urological Cancer Care Centre in Scotland co located with the acute ward.
